Build a Website – Establish an Online Presence

wpx_official

wpx_officialIn today’s music industry it is absolutely neccessary to establish an online marketing plan centered around a website, preferrably a domain that you own so YOU reap all the benefits of your hard work.  The first step to setting up your website is thinking of a domain that encompasses your brand and some keywords about the brand as well in order to take advantage of search engine marketing.  We recommend using GoDaddy to register the domain as they are the quickest and easiest to deal with in most cases as the market leader.  The next step would be to call the experts over at WordPress Express who were kind enough to build this blog as well as a host of other music sites around artists, venues, models, concerts, and brands.  They will set up all the Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Social Network Optimization necessary for you to excel as a new or established brand.  Thanks to their setup this blog gets hundreds of visits everyday from users like you looking for information to put them ahead in the music industry, and they can do the same for you and your focus.

Vimeo – The Creative’s Video Sharing Site

Vimeo is a great site that is developed for the more creative community.  With less focus on stats and commercialization, the site offers great tools to let creative types thrive and live virally.  The site has proven itself to not only the independent community, but major artists and directors alike.

Recently, John Mayer joined the site to share an exclusive video highlighting “A Life In The Day” in the singer/songwriter’s life.  The short film was recorded on May 5, 2010, mostly as a first-person chronicle of the day’s events leading up to Mayer’s performance in Wollongong, Australia.

Mayer joins other A-list musicians such as P. Diddy (Diddy Blog) and Beyoncé (“Why Don’t You Love Me”) who have recently decided to share their work on Vimeo.  However, the list of the artists that showcase exclusive content on Vimeo is long and impressive, including Beck, Kanye, Nine Inch Nails, Nabil who makes videos for Kanye, Moby, Sigur Ros, Jonsi, The Knife, Yeasayer, Ryoksopp and a host of others.  Another example of the creative freedom available on Vimeo is La Blogotheque’s “The Take-Away Shows” that produces “in-the-moment” videos for a wide-range of musicians.

In addition to the high-quality and clean format offered on Vimeo, many turn to the site for its creative freedom and its unrestricted policy for artists to share their work among their peers and fans.  Recently, M.I.A.’s video “Born Free” was banned on YouTube for excessive violence, but continues to be shown on Vimeo.  It’s this freedom and lack of censorship (in the name of creative flexibility) that continues to appeal to those creative-minded individuals—both famous and not-so-famous.

Vimeo, a vibrant, respectful community of users who showcase their creativity and individuality, features beautifully produced video from its many talented content creators and video enthusiasts. Launched in 2004 and headquartered in New York, NY, Vimeo offers users a video sharing experience that is both entertaining and easy to use.

Vimeo Executive Quote: “Vimeo is a great outlet for music industry creatives; including DPs, producers and musicians that want to showcase and share their visual talents without the noise or distractions found on other online video websites,” said Dae Mellencamp, General Manager for Vimeo. “The site’s passionate and positive community offers everything from advice, opinion, and support of each other’s work, while inspiring the next generation. Vimeo provides visual artists a quality platform to showcase their work, potentially get ‘discovered,’ and build a passionate, loyal fan-base.”

MobBase – Simple and Cheap iPhone Apps for Musicians

MobBase

MobBaseMobBase is a great platform that allows artists/bands and more the ability to easily and very inexpensively create a custom iPhone Application with streaming music, news, shows, purchase links, photos, videos and much, much more.  The dashboard is very easy to use and allows you to create a custom app in a matter of hours and then submit it directly to the iTunes App Store.  MobBase then takes care of all the accounting and statistics and the app keeps all your fans updated!

According to MobBase designing your app is easy:

Using your MobBase dashboard, you can add, manage, and update your app’s content in real-time. Pull in digital goodies like your videos, photos, news, and tweets, add MP3s, and link fans to your merch store. Add as much content as you like before you launch your app, and then keep fans engaged by adding more content once it’s live. Your fans will get these updates the next time they open your app.

We are in the process of creating and submitting an App for Coast 2 Coast Mixtapes that will not only stream music, but more importantly keep fans updated on all the new releases through the News feed feature, sending mixtape releases directly to fans on their mobile devices.
